First, what is a tagline?

In the words of Elizabeth Mueller a tagline is a catchy phrase that sums up what a certain product (person, place or thing you are promoting) is. Here are several examples to help give you an idea:

Got Milk?
Just do it
What's in your Wallet?
The happiest place on earth
Time to make the doughnuts
Thank heaven for 7-11
Shouldn't your baby be a Gerber baby?

Poor Ali Cross, I keep picking on her, but her author tagline is one that I can't get out of my mind, it ROCKS: "Stories that transcend the ordinary"  Admit it, it's awesome, right?

Virginia Lori Jennings, a friend of mine, said over on my FaceBook Timeline, "An author tagline is a saying that embodies your writing subject, why you write, and what you want your stories to achieve.-> sorta like a slogan."

Are you catching a vision for you tagline?
(Next week, we'll discuss how to discover your author tagline!)

It's true--author branding is all about the tagline, eh?

A long time ago, I wrote down what kind of stories I wanted to write. I printed it up and taped it to my monitor. In nutshell, I want my stories to inspire people. I'm hopeful that I do that with each book whether it's YA Time Travel or Romantic Suspense.

So good to catch up with you, Elizabeth!

This is hard to decide on one tagline when I am going in more than one direction with branding. Maybe one for each brand? I definitely want to think about this some more. Looking forward to your next post.

I'm the Ninja Captain - that's as good as I get for a tagline.

Well said! A tagline is what sums up your author branding into words. Wooot! xD

The thought hit me too, and quite hard. I'd love to hear what your tagline is. Like Crystal said in the previous comment, it's author branding, but summed up in words! Brilliant!

Hi, Renae! *waves* I understand where you're coming from! Do you have an underlying thread that applies to you? Like your author branding?

(What you want to be known for?)

That invoke a *lot* of interest, Alex. And you're quite successful at that, too! :D

Fantastic blog! Do you have any hints for aspiring writers?
I'm planning to start my own site soon but I'm a little lost on everything.
Would you propose starting with a free platform like Wordpress or go
for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I'm totally confused ..
Any tips? Appreciate it!

Hi! For aspiring writers, yes. When you write any book, what do you feel most passionate about? Do you feel strong when you write about love? forgiveness? overcoming weaknesses? What drives your books? You? This goes pretty close with your platform, what you're all about.

When I started out writing, I thought of all the things that applied to me and played around with those for a while. Ask yourself: What do you want your readers to know you by? How steamy your books are? Feel good and uplifting? Dark and scary? Most helpful? Think about it... ;)

As for a free platform like Wordpress, oh, yes, I would start there. Work on getting yourself out there. Visit people's blogs--especially commenting! And also following. Usually, bloggers will follow you back, and more than not, they WILL drop by your blog and comment if you comment first. xD

btw, you're welcome to email me, it'd be easier to keep track of your questions that way! <3

Thank you! Had done lots of research on taglines since I was deciding on one. Still not sure if I like mine: Live the Adventure. I want it to embody the kinds of books I write, but they reflect more of an emotional nature. Ack!!! :(

I'm glad to hear that it helped!
