With decades of beta-reading and critiquing and writing as well as experience in the publishing industry, I have a cache of tools in my writerly kit I’d love to share.

My compassion for writers and their book babies moves me to provide my best with the honesty that publishing house editors exemplify—they do not sugarcoat their thoughts, but I promise to deliver compassionate feedback. You’ll possess the valuable insights of a published author who is experienced with both traditional and indie publishing.
My procedure:
- Include my initial reader’s reaction with detailed explanations
- Do your chapters/scenes end with a page-turning hook?
- Are there sections that pull me out of the story or direct my focus to the writing?
- Am I able to relate to the main character?
- Does the dialogue feel natural, not stilted or overdone?
- Are there any inconsistencies that need attention?
- Is there a sense of place without info-dumping?
- What sections do I find confusing and why?
- Does the story deliver its promise from the first chapter?
- What sections coax a reaction from me (cry, laugh, sad, angry, etc)?
- Is the story a good feel for the genre/audience?
- As a reader, am I enjoying the story? Why?
I will analyze your book, provide annotations with applicable examples and reader’s first reactions.

What I am looking for:
Think of me as the last person to go over your manuscript before sending it off to your editor. Please send your first 1000 words for a FREE compatibility test, along with any questions, to elizabethbetareads@gmail.com, using Word, Times New Roman, 12 pt double-spaced. I don't work with horror, erotica, vulgar language, or nonfiction.
If we are a good match, I will ask for 35% down and the rest upon completion. I look forward to working with you!

What is included in the Reader's Report?
I will share constructive feedback on character development, dialogue, plot and pacing, story structure, worldbuilding, and emotional impact along with anything that jumps out at me.
What format do you accept?
MS Word, double-spaced, please!
What genres do you accept?
I'll name what I don't: horror, erotica, vulgar language, or nonfiction.
Do you correct grammar or spelling?
I do as comments--sometimes I offer alternative examples. I also have no qualm pointing out repetitive words or instances. Don't worry, you're in good hands!
What will my book look like when you return it to me?
I will use MS Word's track changes and commenting system to address what I've listed I'd do in my gig description along with whatever I feel is important. I tend to share examples or include supporting articles with their links!
