Hidden, young adult thriller
Melissa will do anything for her lifelong crush Ty, but all that changes the day he accidentally kills her BFF and she wonders if running away with him is the right thing to do.
Should I wait for the right moment? Was it dumb for me to consider fleeing? My blood iced over and my hands trembled and my head spun.
“What’s wrong with you?” Ty asked, making me jump.
“Uh, nothing, I j-just am shocked”—a convulsive swallow interrupted me—“that you-you’d do that.”
“What?” I felt the heat of his gaze along my face, but I kept my eyes out my window. Ty cleared his throat and said, “What did I do?”
I pressed my lips together and released a slow stream of air from my nose. Was he kidding?
“We needed a car and this was the fastest way to get one. I had no choice,” he said, his voice writhed with sarcasm.
“What?” I turned and faced him, the cap toppling from my head. “What did you say?” Disgust emboldened me and I fisted my hand on my lap.
“You heard me.”
“We always have a choice. You could’ve left that gun back where it belongs. Who made you take it?” My throat tightened and my face heated. “Who?”
