IWSG: When the Well Runs Dry

IWSG: a place where writers and friends share woes or hugs.
Welcome to mine!

The past month or so I've been finding motivation for writing difficult--this includes blogging!

I remember when I hit a wall over ten years ago while writing one of my books. It lasted a good few weeks! I had decided to help other writers out by critiquing, touting for them, encouraging them on their various platforms, including their blogs.

I also read books that involved my genre along with watching movies until one day, I felt inspired again.

This time, I've only helped one writer with copyediting, but I haven't felt the desire to read or watch movies in the same genre as my current work in progress. I was hoping I would feel inspired but it's been so difficult! I think I might be depressed.

What do you do when your writing well runs dry?

Don't forget!
May 4th was the IWSG's latest anthology, Dark Matter: Artificial!

The stories are surprising and intriguing. What a wonderful collection!

My story, Resurgence: Living in a peaceful community, Damarin encounters a trail of inexplicable anomalies and is afraid to reveal his concerns for fear of retribution, until he follows an unsuspecting neighbor through a secret portal.

  1. Congratulations on Dark Matter!
Chrys Fey has a book about writer's block, burnout, and depression that might help.

  2. When my writing well runs dry, usually I force myself to write terrible stuff for a while. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. I will confess I am really, really bad at taking time to just relax. Congrats on doing that.

  3. Sometimes it's good to read things away from your genre, too. It can help stir up fresh ideas and you might see things from a new light. I hope your well refills soon. Congrats on being chosen for the anthology.

Welcome to my blog! I love reading your comments, so please don't be shy and comment away. Also, because of the outrageous number of Anonymous Spam comments I've been receiving, I have opted from that availability--I apologize for any inconvenience!
