The kids were fabulous, silly and most of all, creative! I had so much fun sharing what I've learned with them, though they learned tons from their brilliant teacher, Shanna Blythe--a great writerly friend of mine!
The principal took several pictures and I've yet to receive them. I'm planning on posting them on my website and blog as soon as I get my hands on them!
It's definitely a new feeling as an author figure, and amazing! I've yet to establish the comfort of indulging my ego in talking about myself so freely as Karen Hoover can! She's amazing and seems at ease. I think tenure has lots to do with it.
What do you think? Does talking about yourself come easy, especially with people you don't know?
I'm so glad you survived and had fun- you never know what you are capable of until you do it.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind talking about my self on a small note, but not sure how I would react talking about myself to others as a writer.
Well done you!! Yayyayayayayayayay!! And I loved that you had a great time and enjoyed the experience!! Awww brilliant!!! Good for you!!! I knew you'd be fab!!
ReplyDeleteTake care

You survived which means the ice has been broken and it will be a little easier next time round ! Congrats !
ReplyDeleteBy nature , I'm a private person and don't normally go out of my way to talk about myself. But when I network with my patrons at my singing gigs , then I will disclose tidbits of info about myself because it's important to be accessible to them and socialise with them . It's a contradiction of sorts (does it make any sense ?)
Glad you survived, I'm okay at public speaking, but still hate it.
ReplyDeleteTalking about yourself is never easy - at least not for me. As a teacher I applaud your bravery at addressing a junior high audience! Actually, they can be a really fun crowd if you manage to engage them. Sounds like you did, so good going.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun. Do it more and let loose. Kids are wonderfully accepting, especially if you make it fun.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! Glad it went well.
ReplyDeleteThat's great Elizabeth, I knew you would rock!

ReplyDeleteSounds like it was a great experience!
ReplyDeleteI teach high school so I know how fun young people can be but when I was invited by the English National Honor Society as a guest speaker to talk about being an author, it was a whole new experince. It was lovely. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Kids are great!
ReplyDeleteGlad it was wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI detest talking about myself - I'm really not very good at it :)
Good for you! I'm glad things went well for you! Kids are great!
ReplyDeleteGlad it went well for you.
ReplyDeleteI don't like talking about myself.
Summer, yes, that's how I am! I can talk about myself on a smaller note, but on that kind of scale, er, maybe practice would make perfect?
ReplyDeleteJennifer, thank you!
Mish, that's true! Yes, of course you'd like for the fans to relate to you so that they know you're human. ;) I can see that...
Chris, I think it would feel like a "first" for me every time. Not sure I like the sound of that. :/
Tracy, thank you for that encouraging note! ay, sounds like I engaged them alright! You should've seen them, they were quite during the right moments and boisterous during the right moments, too! <3
Donna, so true! I hope I can make it just as engaging for the adult crowd! *gulp*
Melissa, thank you, me too! ;)
Silvina, you're sweet! Thank you for your endearing faith in me! *hugs*
Becca, lol! I know what you mean...
Hanny, thank you! Yes, I'd have to say life-changing because I know that I CAN do it! :)
Susan, whoa! How fun! I'd love to hear how you handled your nerves and how you planned for it and what your platform was and your props and so on! Great for you!
Jemi, thank you! I hope it gets better, because I know Authors need to do it sometime. Maybe talking about your book is a bit different?
Tracy, thank you! I do love kids! <3
Anthony, thank you! I feel egotistical when I do, especially when others praise me afterward. I squirm...
Congrats, glad it went smoothly and its nice to hear that you are enjoying public speaking. Better get use to it, as there will be lots of it in future, Elizabeth.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your day at school with us, Elizabeth! I love talking about my childhood, but I rarely say anything about my adulthood. Hmm . . .:p
ReplyDeleteSo glad it went well, honey!
ReplyDeleteHi Elizabeth,
ReplyDeleteYeahee congrats.. Now maybe you can take a break for a minute :) This is inspiring.

Congratulations on a successful day! I'm sure you inspired quite a few students to follow their writing pursuits. :o)
ReplyDeleteI think talking about yourself can be the hardest, because you are your own worst critic. Plus, you know yourself the best so where do you even start? Congratulations on making it through and well, though!
