Hi, my bloggie friendz! I'm helping my friend, Angie Lofthouse, with her blog contest by hosting her story, Among the Silent Stars.
"Among the Silent Stars" first appeared in Amazing Journeys Magazine in March 2004. It also received First Honor in the Science Fiction Writers of Earth short story contest in 2002.
Manon just doesn't fit in with the rest of her small space colony. She wants nothing more than to get away. But when her only friend passes away, Manon faces a choice. Get away like she's always wanted, or stay and fulfill her dying friend's final wish.

Not feeling like I fit in is the story of my life. There have only been brief moments when I've had a sense of belonging.
ReplyDeleteGo, Angie! Now nice of you to promote her.
Do we have a month??? I think all of us, at one point or another, have felt like we don't fit it. There were many times in junior high and high school I felt shunned or misunderstood by my peers. Even now, being a grown woman, I still have moments where I feel I don't fit in with the other people at my kids sports events, with other mothers, with our small town in general... :)
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to remember if there was a time when I ever felt that I did fit in somewhere, but ... I just can't. I've always felt like the outsider, the one who doesn't belong, the odd one out.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Elizabeth! And thanks for the comments so far. I think we can all relate to not fitting in! Good luck to all of you.
ReplyDeletei always have a little bit of a feeling i dont fit in always however the older i get the less i feel that way my teenage years were the worst of feeling like i didnt fit in any where
ReplyDeleteI have felt the awkward feeling of not fitting in on numerous occasions, but the most recent one is going to my daughters gymnastics class for the first time. Everyone seems so upper class to me and I felt out of place. Now that I've been going, as my daughter loved it, I realized that they are all there just to support their children, so I did fit in after all.
ReplyDeleteAnother great story!! Way to go Angie!!
ReplyDeleteI have spent my entire life not quite fitting in. It has taken a long time, but I finally embraced myself and now just enjoy being who I am, without worrying about fitting in.
Sounds cool!
ReplyDeleteI had to go to a Star Trek convention with my hubby once because he had designed some costumes for it. I felt TOTALLY out of place. HAHA!
One time I didn't feel like I fit in? So many times. Then I decide I don't care. I'm here for the food :)
ReplyDeleteMost of my life I've felt like a square peg trying desperately to shove myself into a small round hole.
ReplyDeleteI read Angie's story. It is really good. Infact, I think she should keep going and make it into a novel.
Holy Cow. I feel like I don't fit in most of the time. Great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteThere were/are many times in my life I feel that I don't fit in..sigh..
ReplyDeleteI kept thinking its me..until I read some of the above comments..quite a few people feel that they don't fit in too..
You are a very generous friend to promote another writer!
ReplyDeleteI have always felt like I was on the outer edge of the centrifuge, just about to spin out into space. In reading the above, it seems there are many of us!
Neato!
ReplyDeleteI didn't fit in during middle school, LOL! Good thing those days are over. ;)
feeling like i don't fit in is the story of my life as a child i was the only girl with six brothers and i always felt left out because i was told i couldn't do what the boys did. as an adult i don't feel like i fit in with other mothers because i view things differently. it's always been this way i din't fit in with boys , i feel comfortable with girls, just the way it it i'm more comfortable alone.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea for promotion! I read the link - poor Poppy.
ReplyDeleteI feel I don't fit in because I don't live in the country of my birth - I'm a foreigner. Not fitting in, though, often is a God-send and people forgive you if you act dumb "she's a foreigner" :)
Problem is, I don't fit in when I go back to the UK either because no-one can understand why I live abroad.
Man, I remember too many times! But especially in elementary school trying to find my place was hard. It helps me to empathize with my little 2nd grader now. I can cry with her.
ReplyDeleteI didn't fit in for most of my childhood and I don't fit in in certain circles even now. It had been to the point that I tried desperately to held back my tears. I'm going to do my best and never subject myself to unnecessary torture.
ReplyDeleteI usually extend my friendship to "newcomers" because I know how awful it feels to be "left out". I don't want anyone to feel that way if I can help it!
Did you notice how much we do fit in with other writers? There's a wonderful brotherhood in that and I am grateful for that. :P
Thanks for the beautiful, heartfelt comments. *HUGS* to everyone here. <3
Sounds like a cool contest, Elizabeth. Many times I feel I don't fit in someplaces.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, you've won a free copy of Vallar by Cindy Borgne! Please contact her (or stop by her blog) for details.
ReplyDeleteRachna, I'm sorry to hear that. You're such a fabulous person, others don't know what they are missing when the do that. *hugs*
ReplyDeleteSandra, really? How exciting! Thank you for letting me know! :)
I've always struggled with fitting in, but I most struggled just after I turned 12. I've attended private schools my whole life, so I never got to really interact with any of the other kids in my neighborhood. This made it really hard at church because all the other youth knew each other from school and shared friends, teachers, and experience; it was really hard to relate to any of them.
ReplyDeleteRochelle, I know you feel. That's the way it is with us in church as well. I've never really fit in, the only place I really do is in my own home. Thank goodness for that! <3
