All writers suffer a form of disbelief. It comes from the many facets of subjectivity. We get it from our families as we bravely step out and say we are writers. We get it as we submit it to our critique groups. We get it as we send our MS through the grinder so many times with our rewrites. Maybe while we brush up on our technique with how-tos? We also get it when we agent-hunt. Or when we stumble across a bad review?
What do we do when we find it lurking in our own thoughts? I think it's moments like that that defines us. Do we hide our faces and say, never again?
Every one of those books you see in the library owns an author who felt those very same things. Let us be our strong, bold, bright and beautiful selves!
Let us Believe in ourselves!
"So often times it happens that we live our lives in chains
And we never even know we have the key."
And we never even know we have the key."
Lyrics from Already Gone, peformed by the Eagles for their 1974 On the Border album

I've lost faith in my writing so many times I just ignore that feeling now. Instead of belief I rely on stubborness, which is a constant.

Lovely post - there's nothing so good as self belief, when you have it, and nothing so debillitating as when you don't! Love the graphics, too.

ReplyDeleteYou did a great job of emBedding the letter B in your post! Well done!
ReplyDeleteGreat post, very inspiring. Our belief in ourselves can be challenged and hard to maintain. But I think it's a critical point to succeeding in our endeavors.
ReplyDeleteSome days it's tough, but you're absolutely right.
ReplyDeleteLove the quote at the end!

ReplyDeleteI've come close to stopping so many times, but I'm glad I haven't. Great post!
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful post with a wonderful message. Thank you for making my day :)
ReplyDeleteReally nice post! You're right though, people should just believe in themselves....it's the only way to succeed.
ReplyDeleteThat's very encouraging. I personally go through periods where I feel that it's not even worth trying. But I'm always glad in the end when I keep writing.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Elizabeth! It says something I need to hear sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to print out your post and hang it on my wall where I can see it everyday. I was once full of confidence, but every day that light gets a little dimmer. I think I run on the sheer stubbornness to see my dream come true.

I really love this post & it is the answer I was looking for when I wrote my own "B" post in the challenge! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI love how you highlighted the b in the words as well! Yes, Believe!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Believing in ourselves is beneficial!
ReplyDeleteWonderful post, Elizabeth! I was thinking of having my C post as Confidence, but the more I thought about it, the more I started to wonder about my own confidence! But you are so right, we HAVE to believe in ourselves, otherwise we'd never write another word. Thanks for an inspirational post!
ReplyDeleteLook forward to reading more of your A-Z blogs.

Beautiful words to reflect on. Very true. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI love those lyrics. And yes, I think sometimes the hardest thing we writers have to face is to believe in ourselves, to CONTINUE believing in ourselves, despite whatever happens.
ReplyDeletelove the fairy pictures!

ReplyDeleteLovely words. Well done you :o)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and inspiring B post.
ReplyDelete<3 the eagles. Great line!
ReplyDeleteLove the post, Elizabeth. Its important to believe in ourselves.
ReplyDeleteIt's tough when belief wanes, because it throws our inner planets off orbit. It's not fun at all. But surrounding myself with good friends and family who know me and love me and who will raise me up helps to rekindle the belief in myself. <3
ReplyDeleteThanks, you guys, for dropping by and commenting! Enjoy your weekend!
:)
When you're starting out you need a lot of self-belief to keep going, but it's wonderful when someone else first says I believe in you.
ReplyDeleteGreat post!
ReplyDeleteBelief is something we have to nurture every day that we write, because there will be times when we're going to need it.
Love the quote.
