Too Me Tuesdays

Every Tuesday I will post something CRAZY (or not) about me!

Ahem... here I gooo!

Today is is the first day to enter for Brigham City Fine Art Center contest, Up a Tree.

The first thing that popped into my head was the picture you see here. A merfairy is serenaded by a tree fairy. I finished this piece back in November of 2009.

Ugh... The medium I used was pastel, color pencil, and charcoal. The finished product looks more like a diorama to me. I really aught to practice with oils. I've heard that oils are very forgiving. I am going to teach myself to use watercolor, too.

*Sigh. I want to try everything but don't have the money for it all.

Okay, here is another picture I drew with graphite pencil for Up a Tree. I just barely got this laptop and can't find any kind of photoshop anywhere and I am frustrated. Don't all computers come with some kind of photoshop?

Sorry to expose you to something so ugly. You know, being an artist, you don't want to show off your best in its worst stages!!!

Wish me luck in the contest!

What kind of ambitions do you have other than writing?

  1. No. It's quite good. I'm not an artist, but I've known a few. A PC is not the computer to work with for graphics. PC's are for word crunching. Trade it for an Apple. Or something with a Lenox type operating system. Both have adequate word processing systems - or accept anything you want to add - but are made for graphic arts.

PC's are cheap. That's not what you need for your particular talent. Graphic artists are special: they not only can write concise dialogue, but can draw out a story in a way that appeals to many thousands of readers. You are not limited to an age genre.

I'm getting on to be an old lady; but graphic novels are the same as Comic Books to me. The difference, I think, is a graphic novel has to have more actual "writing" ability than the Comics had to have. "Pow" doesn't get it anymore. And the writer and the artist has to be the same person now.

I know how you feel about having the money to squander into your dream career. But at some point Liz you need to make a committment to your talent. Like I say, I'm not an artist; but I find that free-drawn griffin above pretty good for a sketch. If I passed you by on the board walk, I'd pay $10 for it. $60 to have it tattooed to my shoulder.

Don't sell yourself short. The Tree Fairy pix is really good. I imagine it takes as long for a canvas artist to get recognized as it takes for a Novelist to get published.

I don't know if you're the best there is out there, but you're not without talent either. To my unpracticed eye, anyway.

    Keep on keeping on!

  2. So exciting. Good luck with the contest!

My other ambition is to save the world one animal species at a time. Not too much to ask, right? LOL!

  3. I love that top picture - love it!! Good luck with the contest, Elizabeth. I'm sure you'll kick some butt. :-)

  4. I love the black and white the best. Very striking. So beautiful. What talent you have.

  5. I've always known you were talented in many ways, Lizzie. =]

Other ambitions than writing? You mean, they exist? =P

  6. You're are so talented! My gosh, if I could just have a drop of your artistic ability...nicely done, both of them.

I'm not sure what my other ambitions are aside from writing. Mostly revolving around the welfare of my family, I think. Oh, and I love to travel, so would love to visit strange, beautiful places to inspire my writing :)

  7. Hi Donna! Wow, I knew that Apples were very good computers, but I didn't know that much. Thanks for sharing with me! Thank you for your compliments, really...I appreciate them!! :)

Jackee! That's sweet! My daughter saves earthworms from drowning in puddles as she goes to school. She'd LOVE you!!!

Shannon! Thank you! You're so sweet! <3 I'll let you know what happens. We find out who the winners are this Saturday!

    Thank you, Melissa! :)

LOL, Laura! ((hugs)) You're too nice to me!

Carolina--family is a strong ambition. You are so awesome for that. I love my family dearly and it is my passion that I do the best for them in any way I can! As far as traveling...boy, when/if I get to ever do that, let's travel together!

  8. I love decorating, and singing. (other than Writing.)

  9. I love singing, too! Decorating is so much fun! One time, when my hubby was working at a furniture store, I helped him with a floor display and it turned out that was exactly how his boss, a person who took interior designing, wanted it.

Now do I decorate my house like that? LOL. No.

  10. I love your art! Thanks for sharing it with all of us! As far as my other interests, there are sooo many. Painting, drawing, reading, photography, crocheting, cross-stitch, etc!!! I agree that the money cost is usually the thing that squelches our hobbies, but I find ways to enjoy things for free, sometimes. :)
